K Kavitha, a prominent leader of the BRS party, was arrested from her home in Hyderabad by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case. She was then flown to Delhi for further questioning at the agency’s headquarters.
Upon her arrival in Delhi, Kavitha underwent medical tests at the ED office. The agency plans to present her before the Rouse Avenue court to request custody for further interrogation.
Her brother and former Telangana minister, KT Rama Rao, criticized the arrest, calling it an abuse of power by the BJP government. He highlighted concerns about the timing of the arrest, especially when the matter is still under judicial review.
The arrest followed a dramatic raid at Kavitha’s residence in Hyderabad, where she was taken into custody amidst protests by her supporters.
The timing of the arrest, just weeks before the Lok Sabha polls and during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Hyderabad, has raised eyebrows.
Previously, the Supreme Court had granted Kavitha immunity from interrogation until Wednesday, and her petition against the ED’s summons was heard on Friday. The next hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.
